The University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance presents one of America’s most widely produced plays, Thornton Wilder’s OUR TOWN, April 2 – 11, 2010, at the Oscar G. Brockett Theatre.

A part of the canon of American Theatre, OUR TOWN holds a spot among works that have held up through time. It is among the most widely produced American plays, finding an especially popular niche especially in high-school theatres because of its family friendly material, intrinsically minimal production values, and sizable cast. In this production of OUR TOWN, audiences are encouraged to look past the period costume, dialect and long production history and experience simplicity and intimate relationships with the actors on stage.

“Thornton Wilder has tapped into something bigger than any of us with this piece of theatre. This is one of those plays that you may know very well, or you may not know. You may never have seen a play at all let along this play, or you may have played a part in it as a high school student,” says director and MFA in Directing candidate, Marie Brown. “Regardless of how much we think we know this piece, regardless of what we are expecting when we walk in, you are likely going to walk out with, even just momentarily, a new perspective of your world. “

Marie Brown is in her the third year at the University of Texas working toward her MFA in Directing. Theatre credits most recently include co-conceiving and directing The University Co-op Presents and ENCORE presentation of The Psyche Project: an interdisciplinary performance retelling the story of Eros and Psyche. Her directing credits also include Summer People by Jenny Connell, Split by Erica Saleh, Stop Kiss by Diana Son, Big Love by Charles Mee, among others. She co-directed short film Unmoored by Jenny Connell and Erica Saleh, with Yari Wolinksy, produced by Trillium Studios which was accepted into the Dances With Films Festival in Los Angeles, CA, the Woodstock Film Festival in New York, and was awarded “Audience Choice” at The Woods Hole Film Festival, in Massachusetts. Marie received her BA from The University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, where she was a double major in Theatre Arts and Music.

Join us Friday, April 2nd for an Opening Night Reception immediately following the performance. Guests will be able to mingle with the cast, crew, and director of OUR TOWN while enjoying an assortment of light snacks and desserts.
